Along with freckles, pigmentation spots often appear on the face. These spots can vary in shape and color — ranging from light yellow to dark brown. Pigmentation spots usually occur due to chronic conditions of the digestive tract, liver, gallbladder, or reproductive organs. One of the main causes is a deficiency of vitamin C in the body, as well as prolonged exposure to sunlight.

While the lightening of pigmentation spots should ideally be handled by a specialist, there are also effective steps you can take at home. However, it’s very important to be cautious: self-treatment can sometimes irritate the skin, making the spots darker or more noticeable. If this happens, stop all procedures immediately and consult a dermatologist or cosmetologist.

Here are several simple and effective remedies you can try for pigmentation lightening:

  1. Egg White Treatment: Apply egg white directly to the spot every day, leave it on for about one hour, and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
  2. Egg White and Sour Cream Mask: Whip egg white, add half a teaspoon of boric acid and a small amount of sour cream. Leave on for 25–30 minutes and rinse with warm water.
  3. Flour, Vinegar, and Honey Mask: Mix one teaspoon of flour with one teaspoon of vinegar and one teaspoon of honey. Leave on for 15–30 minutes before washing off.
  4. Hydrogen Peroxide Solution: Add a few drops of ammonia to 50 g of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Soak a cotton pad in the mixture and apply it to the pigmented area.
  5. Lemon Peel Massage: Gently rub the spot with fresh lemon peel using circular motions. Do not rinse afterward — let the lemon’s natural acids act on your skin.
  6. Castor Oil Application: Apply a thin layer of castor oil directly to the dark spots daily for gradual fading.

Remember, none of these methods will work overnight. Consistency is key — without regular use, results will not appear. No remedy is magical enough to erase pigmentation in one go. Additionally, make sure to consume enough vitamin C, especially in winter and spring, when its deficiency is most common.

Useful Facial Masks
Egg White Mask

This mask works well for tightening enlarged pores, especially for oily skin. It also helps reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and so-called “crow’s feet” around the eyes.
To prepare: beat the egg white until it becomes foamy. Apply it evenly to the face. As it dries, it forms a thin film. Once it dries completely, apply a second layer and leave it on for 15–25 minutes. Rinse gently with water. For added nourishment, you can mix in a little honey.
If your skin is dry, apply a light layer of moisturizer before the mask. The whipped egg mixture should be used immediately — it does not store well.

Calendula Mask

Perfect for oily or redness-prone skin with enlarged pores. Mix one tablespoon of calendula tincture with 100 g of warm water. Cut a natural fabric mask (with holes for eyes, nose, and mouth), soak it in the solution, squeeze lightly, and place it on your face.
Leave on for 20–25 minutes while lying down and relaxing. Afterward, rinse with water at room temperature. This mask helps soothe and refresh the skin while reducing inflammation.

Hot Olive Oil Mask

Recommended for very dry or rough skin. Warm up some olive oil (do not boil it), soak a piece of gauze, squeeze lightly, and place it on your face. Cover with a small towel to retain warmth. Keep it on for about 30 minutes, then gently wipe with a soft sponge and warm water.
For an extra boost, add 10–15 drops of vitamin E oil to the olive oil. This treatment can be done twice a week to deeply nourish and soften the skin.

Rice Mask

Take three tablespoons of rice and boil it in three cups of water. Strain the water and save it — it can be used later as a natural facial rinse. Mix the cooked rice with three tablespoons of milk and cook it again over low heat until soft. Blend it into a smooth, porridge-like consistency. Apply it to your face and leave it for 30 minutes.
Rinse off with warm water and apply your regular moisturizer. This mask should be done during the day, and in the evening, rinse your face with the saved rice water, leaving it on for 1–2 hours before washing off again at bedtime.
Perform the procedure for three consecutive days, up to twice a month. Overuse is not recommended. The rice mask nourishes, rejuvenates, and gently tightens the skin, leaving it smooth and radiant. It is suitable for both dry and oily skin types.

By following these natural remedies and maintaining consistency, your skin will gradually become clearer, softer, and more even-toned — without the need for harsh chemical treatments.
