If you are planning to prepare medicine from the stem of goldenrod, it is important to know that it contains the most active biological substances. Therefore, preparations made from the stem are intended only for external use.
Specifically, for joint pain, an alcoholic tincture is used. To prepare it, take 10 large stems of goldenrod and soak them in half a liter of 70% medical alcohol. The tincture is made when goldenrod shows 9 to 10 knots on its stem, which is the time when the concentration of biologically active substances reaches its maximum level.
First, wash and crush 30 to 40 stems and side shoots (the goldenrod’s “whiskers”), then pour 1 liter of vodka or strong alcohol over them. Keep the mixture in a dark place for 10 to 15 days, shaking it occasionally. The tincture will develop a dark purple color. After this period, strain the liquid and store it in a cool, dark place.
When using goldenrod tincture for healing, it is necessary to take breaks between doses. For example, take the tincture for three weeks and then rest for one week.
During the break, experts recommend cleansing the body by taking enterosorbents such as “Normagast” or “Sulfoderm.”
Goldenrod leaves are generally safe, but it is important not to exceed recommended amounts. Maintaining moderation is essential in everything. Precautions should also be taken even when using goldenrod externally.
For treating some illnesses, goldenrod is more effective when combined with other ingredients such as honey, oil, cream, alcohol, wine, or infusions of other medicinal plants.
Juice can be made from freshly picked goldenrod leaves. The juice can be stored for no longer than one day. To extend its shelf life to two days, you can mix it with an equal amount of honey and simmer on low heat for half an hour.
If you want to store the juice for a longer period, you can add alcohol in a 3:2 ratio (juice to alcohol). This solution can be kept for 7 to 10 days, but it is best used externally and not consumed orally.
Goldenrod syrup can be used as an expectorant:
Crush goldenrod leaves about 20 cm long, pour half a glass of water over them, bring to a boil, and wait until the volume reduces by one tablespoon. Cool the mixture, add one tablespoon of alcohol, and strain.
Prepare sugar syrup by mixing sugar with water in a 2:1 ratio and bring it to a boil. Mix the filtered goldenrod extract with the sugar syrup to make half a glass in total volume. Bring the mixture to a boil again, cool it, pour it into a glass container, and store it in a cool place for no more than three weeks.
All the green parts of the plant can be used to prepare an infusion.
- Cut the stem leaves and place them in an enamel container. Pour cold water over them, bring to a boil, and let it steep for 6 to 7 hours. Then strain the infusion, pour it into a dark glass container, and store it in a cool place.
- Crush 20 to 30 goldenrod stems, pour hot water over them, bring to a boil, and let it steep for 10 hours. Then strain the juice, pour it into a dark glass container, and store it in a cool place. The goldenrod infusion can also be prepared in a thermos.
